Traditional craftsmanship.
Enduring structures. Rooted in Maine.

Domace designs and builds timber-framed structures using a 2,000-year-old construction method proven to withstand time, weather, and use. We specialize in intentional, mathematically precise timber frames that balance strength, beauty, and place.

The Three Pillar Approach

  • High quality timber frames

We are the only fully custom, high quality, local timber frame business remaining in Downeast Maine. Our timber frames are an effective and relevant way to approach construction in our current understanding of building science.

  • Focus on Aesthetics

Focusing on the technology behind high-performance timber frame homes, we understand the requirements of modern construction and with the beauty of a traditional timber frame, this makes a functional and timeless product.

  • Eco Friendly Construction

We build our custom timber frames to seamlessly integrate into modern high-performance building techniques, using a systems-first approach to look at structural, thermal, ventilation, heating, cooling, and vapor open assemblies.

Rooted in Craft & Family

Domace is led by timber framer Lao Gillam, who comes from a family of builders with deep roots in hands-on craftsmanship. Working alongside his father and brother-in-law, Lao blends historic framing methods with Maine’s regional timber traditions.

This is a family enterprise built on pride, precision, and respect for the craft.

Time-Tested Timber Framing

We create custom timber-framed structures for clients who value durability, craftsmanship, and thoughtful design. Unlike conventional stick-frame construction, timber framing distributes load through large structural timbers, creating buildings that grow stronger under pressure and allow greater interior flexibility.
